
GAPI Regional Meeting in Columbus, Georgia, Nov. 2nd, 2019

GAPI Regional Meeting in Columbus, GA was held on Nov. 2nd, 2019 at Columbus State University’s Cunningham Center. Organized by Regional Director Dr. Raj Alappan the meeting was a great success. He was ably supported by current and past local leaders like Suresh Baliga, Suresh Nukula, Dr. Kaizad Shroff, Dr. Piyush Patel and Dr. P.H. Patel who were a part of the Columbus team in GAPI. The event was well attended by physicians of Indian origin from many cities in the state and Atlanta. They included Dr. Sreeni Gangasani, Sudhakar Jonnalagadda, Dr. Syamala Erramilli, Dr. Chandana Prabhudev, Dr. Manoj Shah and Dr. VIjay Maurya among AAPI and GAPI leaders. After the opening remarks by Dr. Alappan, the attendees were treated to quality talks from Dr. Baliga on Recent Advances in Diabetes Management. After that a talk on Physician Burnout- Do’s and Don’ts by Dr. Shroff and Dr. Allappan followed. Dr. House, Associated Dean Of Mercer Medical School later presented on changing demographics of medical students in her medical school. This was followed by the address from Mayor Skip Henderson of Columbus, Georgia. He applauded the Physicians of Indian origin’s contribution to the health of Columbus and surrounding residents. Dr. Hemant Yagnick, President of GAPI 2019-20 addressed the gathered physicians, guests, and vendors, thanking them for making a difference in the health of the local population as Family Physicians, Internists, Psychiatrists, Anesthesiologist, Endocrinologists, Ob/Gyn, GI specialists and many others specialties that were represented in the gathering. He reiterated the history and mission of GAPI which is education, charity and networking with various physicians and associations. He thanked Dr. Alappan in the organizing community members for truly putting up a great meeting together for Columbus, GA. Dr. Gangasani also exhorted the crowd to become Life members of GAPI and AAPI and serve at least once a year in the GAPI Free Clinic in Atlanta. The attendees enjoy an informative and education meeting. It was followed by entertainment and dance. Overall this meeting was a great success thanks to the physicians attending and the vendors supporting the cause of GAPI organization.
