
GAPI Augusta meeting with Select Speciality Hospital Leadership, August 1st, 2019

The meeting between GAPI leaders in members in Augusta, Georgia, and leadership of Select Speciality Hospital was initiated by the current treasurer, Dr. Tarak Patel. Many physicians including Internal Medicine, PM&R, Pain Management and Hospitalists from the local community attended the presentation by the CEO, Rick Lowe. Select Specialty Hospital is a unique all private room 80 bed critical illness recovery hospital caring for high acuity patients in a health system consisting of 100 plus Critical Illness Recovery Hospitals (LTACH) in 27 states. Sustained growth in clinical quality indicators, HCAHPS patient experience overall above 95th percentile, Key Results and outcomes this year qualifies for Hospital of Excellence designation, continues to improve the collaboration with hospitals in the region and surrounding states. Stabilized operations with targeted recruitment strategies and Leadership development, physician recruitment efforts to reduce very low acute care transfer rate, revenue cycle management, and TJC survey readiness. Achieved status recently for Pulmonary Center of Excellence, and for superior Wound Care Program.
The physicians attending the meeting expressed their issues and patient care concerns and they were satisfactorily answered by the team from the hospital. Overall it was a productive meeting between the physicians and the Select Specialty Hospital leadership with Mr. Lowe appreciating the contribution from the physicians in helping their patients well being. The GAPI leadership expressed it’s support to the hospital going forward. The meeting concluded with questions and answers and lively discussion on spicy Indian food.
